This series introduces al-Irshād by Imām al-Ḥaramayn al-Juwaynī,
Al-Irshād is not a beginner’s text. It assumes you already know the core doctrines of a sunni theology and now, you are ready for pedagogic elevation, moving from the whats to the whys: how are theological doctrines defended, justified, and responsibly applied when challenged.
This is theology written under pressure. It shows how reason and revelation work together without collapsing into speculation or surrendering to empiricism. For students of kalām, it marks the transition from learning what to believe to understanding why, how, and where the limits are.
This course is one I teach as part of the Foundational Cohort at the Ella Collins Institute to students who have completed their studies in foundational theology. ECI is an on-the-ground institute in Washington, DC, with plans for a full seminary in the future. There are online options, also. It will also be taught at SWISS, inshallah.
