This 1906 Stanley Steamer was able to run up to 180 kph (about 112 mph). It has no clutch, no gearbox, no electrical systems, no battery.
Twin cylinder double-acting steam engine is self-starting in any direction and connected directly to the final drive. It has variable valve timing via Stephenson link, produces about 20 hp and 850 N*m of torque.
Unlike in internal combustion engine, where in each cylinder you get 1 power stroke per 2 revolutions, in double-acting steam engine you have 2 power strokes per 1 revolution.
So steam-powered twin is like IC V8.
Stanley "Rocket" set a land speed record of 127 MPH in 1906 and the following year one was clocked at nearly 150 MPH before it crashed near Daytona Beach. It was faster than any other vehicle ever existed before!))
This compilation was made to show some of the best moments with this amazing car in action. This is a REAL steampunk! ;)
