🐕 Why Stray Dogs Exist
1️⃣ Dogs depend on humans — they don’t survive in the wild by themselves.
2️⃣ In India, free-roaming dogs multiplied due to unchecked breeding, pet abandonment, excess garbage, weak enforcement, and cultural feeding habits.
3️⃣ 👉 This is a human-made problem, so the answer lies in changing our behaviour, not eliminating the dogs.
🇧🇹 Bhutan’s Success Story
4️⃣ Back in 2009, Bhutan launched CNVR – Catch, Neuter, Vaccinate, Release, after testing shelters and even culling.
5️⃣ Over 15 years, they sterilised and vaccinated 1.5 lakh dogs, registered pet ownership, and microchipped them.
6️⃣ Today, Bhutan’s dog population is stable, safer, and under control.
🌍 Why Street Dogs Are Valuable
7️⃣ Most are gentle if not provoked.
8️⃣ They warn communities of intruders and keep monkeys, snakes, and rodents in check.
9️⃣ By eating discarded food, they reduce waste and limit pests.
🔟 If suddenly removed, they could trigger an unpredictable ecological chain reaction.
✅ The Smarter Path Forward
➡️ Care for the dogs in your neighbourhood.
➡️ Support CNVR drives instead of pushing for mass removal.
