The "Double Seal on LPG Cylinder" scam in India was a fraudulent scheme that targeted consumers who use liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders for cooking and heating purposes. In this scam, dishonest LPG cylinder distributors would allegedly tamper with the seal on the cylinder and replace it with a fake seal that appeared to be genuine.

The fake seal would have the logo of the oil marketing company (OMC) and a hologram, making it difficult for consumers to detect the fraud. These distributors would then charge customers for the cost of the genuine seal and the fake seal, thereby duping them into paying twice for the same service.

The scam was exposed in 2013 when some customers complained to the OMCs about the double charging. Following an investigation, it was found that a large number of distributors across India were involved in the scam. The government and the OMCs took strict action against the distributors involved in the scam, and some were arrested.

To prevent such scams in the future, the OMCs introduced several measures, including the use of advanced technology to detect and prevent tampering with seals and the implementation of a system to track the movement of LPG cylinders. Consumers were also advised to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
