"How to Make the Most of AI," presented by Ellen Kuwana, was a workshop session for the D.C. Science Writers Association Professional Development Day held on Saturday, May 3, 2025.
In this talk, Kuwana gave an overview of the differences between AI-assisted tools and generative AI (GenAI), and discussed cautions when using GenAI. Attendees also learned how to speed up background research (e.g., literature searches), compare AI-assisted tools to edit writing or text from others, and discovered how to get suggestions about plain language (to communicate better with the broader public) or make text more concise (great for grant proposals and abstracts).
