A tense standoff unfolded in north Minneapolis as crowds grew from dozens to hundreds during clashes between protesters and federal agents. In this clip, KARE 11’s crew shows tear gas/chemical irritants that agents deployed to push the crowd back.
You’ll also hear whistles used by protesters to alert neighbors that federal agents were in the area, and a witness describes what he says he saw when the crowd first arrived — including alleged damage to vehicles and a confrontation with an agent.
Later in the night, Minnesota State Patrol and Minneapolis police are seen moving in as federal agents shift to a second perimeter a block away.
