Human rights activist Grace Forrest is carving a “path of her own” after becoming the first female Australian recipient of the prestigious Roosevelt Four Freedoms Award, according to The Australian’s Jenna Clarke.
She was honoured alongside Brazilian indigenous activist, environmentalist and politician Sônia Guajajara, Netherlands-based investigative journalism group Bellingcat and Zumretay Arkin, chair of the Women’s Committee at the World Uighur Congress.
Ms Forrest, the daughter of mining magnate Andrew Forrest, established Walk Free more than 10 years ago with the goal of eradicating modern slavery.
“She is super impressive whichever way you want to carve it because she could inherit millions, she could be sitting on a boat off Monaco just enjoying life,” Ms Clarke told Sky News host Danica De Giorgio.
“But instead, she is lobbying governments all around the world, including our own here in Australia.”
