Chinese President Xi Jinping visits the Tibetan capital of Lhasa to mark the 60th anniversary the Chinese Communist Party established Tibet as an autonomous region of China. The visit comes a month after the Dalai Lama, Tibetan Buddhism’s highest-ranking leader, turned 90 and announced he will have a successor after his death, and his office will lead the search in accordance with past tradition. China, however, insists it has the authority to appoint the next religious leader of the Himalayan territory.
