Hi there, these radios, like a lot of Sony models from the 1970s, 80s and 90s suffer from capacitor failure. Either they dry up, leak, or both. Usually terminal and particularly common with the ICF-SW55, ICF-SW1 amongst others. This was the first 'higher end' portable I purchased, back in 2016, by which time it was at least 18 years old. Although not in the same league as the ICF-2001D or the ICF-SW77, it is certainly capable, but more importantly, I have a strong emotional attachment to it!
