Long ago, in the land of Latria, the good Queen of the Ivory Tower banished her old husband from the kingdom for his depraved nature. However, the weary old man eventually returned in strange golden garb and with foul Demons in tow. They pillaged great Latria, land of the learned, slayed the Queen and locked the remaining royalty in an enormous dungeon, where they have been feeding off their Souls since then.
The insane old man soon became the new ruler of Latria as the Archdemon now kown as the "Old Monk", and used his newfound power acquired in the golden robe once worn by the old master of the tower to create numerous Demons, by conducting horrible experiments on the prisoners of the dungeon. Adding to this, the Old Monk would summon and enslave Black Phantoms, so that they could become his own servitors.
Only, the old man himself was nothing more than a medium for the robe that drives men mad, and with his revenge finally complete, he withered away, driven to madness by the golden robes that controlled his body. Now too frail to serve as a vessel, the robes began to seek for another host to subjugate, before finally finding it in the form of a Black Phantom, who would now become the new Old Monk. The wizened usurper of Latria was then fully absorbed by the Demon’s Soul, having succumbed to his own nature, that to yearn for power that was not his.
But in the end, was he really accountable for his actions? After all, if you have no future to lose, then who could blame you for placing your faith in the golden robes?
In any case, what now remains of the Golden Demon is found at the very top of the Ivory Tower of Latria, in the Throne Room of Yormedaar.
