We are spicing up your gait training sessions this week, are you ready?
We have been having so much fun this week working on gait and running, especially with folks with dystonia.
And here are two awesome external focus techniques that make gait training fun and effective! 💃🏻💪
Remember: External focus techniques can help optimize gait mechanics, increase efficiency, and improve automatic movement by accessing procedural memory with a goal focus. It’s all about redirecting the focus away from the body and onto external cues like visual targets or auditory cues.
🧠The Skip It—did anyone else have these as a kid? Thanks to one of our clients mentioning it this week, we got one and it has been so fun!
🧠the pool noodle—OUR FAVORITE—simple and low cost! And in the case a great way to cue the shoe to not touch the noodle. In this case driving a more narrow BOS and for the person to have more hip and knee flexion during swing.
So, try these two simple techniques with your clients and see the magic happen! ✨
⭐ And don’t forget! Save the date for our upcoming FREE workshop on Sept 19 and 21! We’ll dive even deeper into strategies like this for functional neurological disorders. Don’t miss out on this incredible learning opportunity! Comment FND below or shoot us a DM to sign up.
