Clarence Pinetop (or Pine Top) Smith only recorded 8 tracks between the end of December 1928 and the middle of January 1929 but is recognised as a major influence on 20 Century piano players especially in the Boogie Woogie genre. Pineti+op’s Boogie Woogie was the first time that ‘boogie woogie’ had been used in the title of a track and helped to cement the name of the genre.
Smith was sadly killed the day before he was due back into the recording studio having been shot in a dance-hall fight in Chicago.
