Hundreds violently arrested at Palestine Action protest

Описание: Thousands of protesters gathered in Parliament Square today in what campaigners have called the largest act of defiance yet against the UK government’s recent ban on the activist group Palestine Action. The demonstration follows the decision by Home Secretary Yvette Cooper to proscribe the group under Section 3 of the Terrorism Act 2000, a move protesters describe as a dangerous overreach.

Chanting “Shame on you” and declaring their steadfast love for the Palestinian people, demonstrators showed little fear of arrest, with many saying they were prepared to be detained in the name of justice.

Among those arrested were elderly participants, as police enforced the terrorism legislation with random detentions.

Protesters criticised the government for using “draconian laws” to suppress dissent, arguing that non-violent direct action, including criminal damage like paint-throwing, has long been part of effective civil resistance.
