Woodburn SES Commander Ashley Slapp says it's “disappointing” to hear negative feedback on the State Emergency Service volunteers’ efforts during the devastating floods earlier this year.
He said thousands of SES volunteers did more than what they could’ve done in “extremely difficult” circumstances, putting their “lives in danger”.
“We didn’t rest – the unit that I was involved with at Woodburn, I think we did eight days with a minimum of two hours sleep a night,” he told Sky News Australia.
“Everyone was on the phone to a head office, and all the people surrounding us – nobody stopped, no one wanted to stop, and we didn’t have time to think about it.”
