WWE’s first brand split in 2002 was supposed to change everything… and it eventually did. But at the start, it was a complete mess. From Austin leaving in June 2002, to poorly balanced rosters and confusing title situations, it quickly became clear that WWE was winging it in real time. Both shows struggled to find a clear identity in those first three months. However, by July 2002, when Stephanie was made general manager for SmackDown, and Eric Bischoff became general manager of Raw, WWE was able to turn things around.

Most interviews used are from the WWE Ruthless Aggression documentary series, but some clips are from the Something To Wrestle With Bruce Prichard podcast.
