In this video from 2021’s Q15 - Dave & Gayle from Dave’s Diesel Diagnostics make the case for switching away from RED Extended Life Coolant (ELC). They cited several Cummins TSB’s that recommend this and then maintained by following the Cummins recommended maintenance schedule. The Cummins ISL engine of my 2004 Bluebird Wanderlodge M380 is then tested using their Cummins authorized “Insite Diagnostic Software”. Just prior to my purchasing this couch, the previous owner was forced to rebuild the engine at a cost of more than $23,000. Thankfully, the only trouble codes revealed by Dave corresponded to that time period.
One of the first things I’ll be doing to my coach after the Quartzsite rally is changing the engine oil & filters, getting the oil tested by Blackstone Labs, then doing an engine coolant flush, possibly replacing the coolant with non-ELC glycol and then changing the filters. While I’m at it, I will also change the PowerTech 12K generator oil & air filters...
BTW I just received a flyer from Cummins offering to do JUST the oil changes for the engine & generator at a “special RV Geek price” of ONLY $1,250 😳. So going DIY will save big $$ and also get the oil tested by Blackstone Labs 🙂...

Please excuse the wind noise. Quartzsite Arizona is notorious for it’s strong winds, and on this day the flags were standing straight out!
