Ever wondered why Sanskrit pose names are called the way they are? Understanding the language behind the practice can make everything click.
In yoga, different parts of the body are linked to directions and poles:
• North pole (top of the body) → Sirsa
• South pole (feet / base) → Pada
• East side (front of the body) → Purva
• West side (back of the body) → Paschima
This is why poses are named the way they are.
When a posture emphasizes the head or top of the body, it becomes Sirsasana — sirsa (north pole) + asana (pose).
Thank you @mayanku.yoga for sharing this wisdom so clearly and beautifully 🙏🕉️
