If you have a love of adventure and amazing natural wonders, the Yellow Birch Ravine is absolutely an awesome place to explore! The area has waterfalls, many caves, and a rare, 25 foot wide natural arch, known to many as “The Taswell Arch” or “Ravine Arch”.
HOW TO GET THERE— Take IN 37 to Taswell, then South Trestle Road about 2 miles, starting under the train trestle. The road down is steep and a little curvy, please take it slowly. Many make the mistake of thinking the arch is on the same side as the parking lot: it’s not. The arch and caves are across the road from the parking lot, about 17 minutes or a 1/2 mile. Simply cross the creek and look for a trail the hugs the right side of the ravine. There’s a stream that cuts through the ravine: if you follow that to the right, it leads directly to the arch.
TRAVEL TIP— Parking space is limited to 3 vehicles, and is less visited during the week, than the weekends. Nearby Hemlock Cliffs, at English, Indiana, is another awesome destination, with ancient cave dwellings, many waterfalls, huge rock formations and another natural arch, known as “Arrowhead Arch”.
