How To Make a Non-Toxic DIY Fire Starter Using Pine Cones

Описание: I love this fabulous Do-It-Yourself - Learn how to create your own fire starter kits that will be perfect in the colder temperatures. The key is the beeswax, which keeps the pinecones lit. The beeswax also keeps the fire contained and easy to clean up. If you are feeling extra-festive, you can scent your pinecone in cinnamon, filling your home with a delicious holiday smell. Each cone will stay lit for up to 30 minutes.


MATERIALS
1 cup Epsom Salt or Epsom Salt (optional)
12 medium pine cones (if you find the cinnamon-scented ones, grab them, but if not - just pick them up from your yard).
2 cups beeswax
Melting pot (you can use an old coffee can)
Wire
Muffin pan and muffin paper cups
Glitter


INSTRUCTIONS
1) Using Epsom or table salt will make the flame burn either a bright white (Epsom) or a bright yellow (salt). Although not necessary, if you are using, simply soak the cones in 1 cup of salt to 1 gallon of water overnight. Dry cones completely before next step.

2) Melt the beeswax in a can or pot, which you want to place in a saucepan containing about 2 inches simmering water. The wax will take about 20 minutes to melt.
While it's melting, fix a ten-inch length of wire to the top of the cone (this is for easy dipping).

3) Place the muffin cups in the muffin pan

4) Once the wax has completely melted, start to work fast! Pour a little wax into the muffin cup (filling about 1/3 of the cup), then dip the cone into the wax making sure it if fully coated. Allow all the excess wax to drip back into can. Sit the cone into the wax in the muffin cup. Gently remove the wire, and then sprinkle with glitter.
If the wax begins to set before you move onto your next cone, you can just pop the can back into the simmering water to re-melt.

5) Allow your cones to set for a couple of hours.
You can then wrap them individually in cellaphane bags with ribbon for a gift. Or you can stack them in a pretty basket. Why not consider taking them as a hostess gift if you are visiting friends or family over the holidays.
