A swan song to Cork city's inner docks. In the second half of the 1800's it was the Cork Park Racecourse. Picturesquely perched by the river, trains to Blackrock and Passage West steaming past, marked today only by the trees that line Center Park Road. As the Industrial Revolution took hold, for over a century it became a hub of heavy industry, unloading of cargo and dockers. It played host to the first Ford plant in Europe. Gouldings Chemicals relocated to the docklands from The Glen, Dunlop's opened their plant and the familiar silos of R&H Hall looked out over the city for many decades.
The 1980's brought with it, the end of the hustle and bustle of the docks. Now, in its twilight the inner docks are set to see a new lease of life as a trendy urban riverside hub of commerce and community. More recently, the Franciscan Well has opened a brewery there and the Marina Market has Corkonians walking up and down the only quays in their droves. This video captures the last days of Corks industrial docklands.
