This is video #569 of my video posting project. I have been working on this project since November 2023--learning and posting a video of NEW piano music every. single. day!
This piece is called "In The Hall of the Mountain King" from "Peer Gynt" by Edvard Grieg. This jazz arrangement was written by Brent Edstrom and comes from the Hal Leonard collection called "Jazz Piano Solos" in the volume named "Classical Jazz".
The piece was originally written as an orchestra piece for a play. I had to laugh at wikipedia's entry on this piece, with a quotation by Edvard Grieg: "For the Hall of the Mountain King, I have written something that so reeks of cowpats, ultra-Norwegianism, and 'to-thyself-be-enough-ness' that I cannot bear to hear it, though I hope that the irony will make itself felt." This song is epic. And I like the injections of jazzy style in the arrangement.
The tune is very catchy and I love the increasing jazz-i-ness that Brent Edstrom puts in with every repetition of the theme.
Tune in tomorrow for more of my #music.every.day experiment!
