The Abbey Cinema, Liverpool opened in 1939 as a grand art‑deco “super cinema,” and it quickly became a beloved local landmark. During the 1950s, George Harrison and John Lennon were regular visitors — it was one of their childhood hangouts, a place where they spent countless hours watching films, escaping into music, and absorbing the culture that would later shape The Beatles. The cinema even appeared in early drafts of the lyrics for “In My Life,” reflecting its emotional imprint on their youth. After closing as a cinema in 1979, the building went through several lives bingo hall, snooker club, supermarket — before being granted Grade II listed status in 2021 following a public campaign to save this Beatles-linked landmark.
