The Tongue River, a tributary of the Yellowstone River, rises in Wyoming in the Big Horn Mountains and flows through northern Wyoming and southeastern Montana.
After finding steep creeking gold on Goose Creek, Team NRS paddler Erik Boomer along with Nouria Newman and Ben Stookesberry, decide to up the ante and make another first descent attempt, this time on the Tongue River.
Super sketchy but good to go is a good description of the Tongue's whitewater. The crew could easily identify most of the crux challenges from satellite imagery, and luck would have it that the river looked even more paddle-able in real life. They were able to descend through the meat with very little portaging. Luckily, the team brought plenty of picnics, extra Brie cheese, positive attitudes and a strong A-game for consequential paddling.
