Gaur gets a second chance at life! | RESQ CT, Pune 2023

Описание: This massive gaur was sighted limping close to a busy road in Satara. While it was not a major injury, however, his limp and pain has slowed him down majorly! Capturing it and keeping it captive for any intensive intervention was not a good option because this species poses a major risk of capture myopathy. RESQ veterinarian administered him painkillers from a distance. Leaving him there was not a good option in his condition as he was likely to get into trouble and either endanger his own life or someone else’s. After careful deliberation, the FD decided that he needed to be translocated to a safe habitat where he could take his time to heal and yet remain safe.

The Satara Forest department and RESQ team worked together to trick him into getting into a vehicle 🙂 (we used a modified version of the boma method considering the field situation) and he was safely loaded onto a large animal ambulance to be transported to Sahyadri Tiger Reserve, a haven for wildlife! The FD, our vets and team travelled with him to ensure he was safe through this travels. He looked pretty pleased as he began exploring and grazing right after he was released. Alls well that ends well!
