When he became Municipal Commissioner of Lucknow, he faced two impossible challenges. Shivri landfill, as big as 10 cricket stadiums and 5 stories high, and Ghaila landfill, even bigger. These dump yards were full of toxic gases, diseases, and unbearable stench, where over 500 families lived in hazardous conditions.

But fearless Punjabi Singh launched India’s largest garbage clearing operation. In just 2 years, he converted Ghaila landfill to a 72 acres of lush green park and Shivri dump to Lucknow’s best waste processing plant. This historic mission made Lucknow India’s first “Zero Net Waste City”.
