Abbott Bioline™ HIV/Syphilis Duo test is a solid phase immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative detection of antibodies to all isotypes (IgG, IgM, and IgA) specific to HIV-1/2 and/or Treponema pallidum (TP) simultaneously in human serum, plasma, or whole blood.
To perform an Abbott Bioline HIV/Syphilis Duo test, you can follow these steps:
1. Prepare the test
Check the desiccant in the test pouch. If it's green, use a new kit. Cover your workspace with a clean, disposable absorbent cloth. Put on new gloves for each patient.
2. Collect blood
Using a lancet, prick the patient's finger. Discard the lancet in a sharps box immediately after. Use the provided capillary tube to collect 20 μL (0.02 mL) of blood.
3. Add blood and assay diluent
Add the blood to the round specimen well marked "S". Add three drops of assay diluent to the same well.
4. Read the results
Wait 15–20 minutes to read the results. A positive result is indicated by visible test lines for both HIV and syphilis (SYP) or HIV alone. A negative result is indicated by only the control line being visible. Do not read the results after 20 minutes.
Here are some other things to keep in mind:
The test should be used immediately after removing it from the foil pouch.
Do not move the test strip after adding the sample and assay diluent.
All components should be at room temperature (15–30 °C) before testing.
Visible test lines should be considered positive, even if faint.
