Due to current in the coils of rotor, a magnetic field is produced around the coils in the rotor. This magnetic field interact with the magnetic field of main poles in the machine, and therefore, creates a distortion in the distribution of the magnetic field in the machine. This is called armature reaction. This lecture discusses the phenomenon of armature reaction in DC machines.
