A UCT social work student and community activist have started the ball rolling to establish what he says will be the country's first youth violence- prevention centre on campus.
Zukile Ntentema, says the initiative will bring together, academics, researchers, students, NGOs and community members in developing strategies for tackling crime-crippling communities like the one he hails from on the Cape Flats.
According to Western Cape crime statistics for the fourth quarter, there has been a 14 per cent decrease in murders.
But violent and organised crime, including extortion, remains a major challenge.
