At the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum in Dresden, parts of a mural by Gerhard Richter will be uncovered in public by autumn 2024. Graduate conservator Susann Förster reports on the restoration.
Some parts of the mural by the now world-famous painter will be uncovered again in a public show restoration until autumn 2024 during the duration of the special exhibition "VEB Museum".
The joint project of the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum and the Wüstenrot Foundation is being organised in cooperation with the Dresden University of Fine Arts, which is providing scientific advice on the project. The Ernst von Siemens Art Foundation is supporting the accompanying educational measures with a grant. The uncovering work will be carried out by the Dresden restorers Albrecht Körber and Susann Förster.
Expert advice is being provided by the Saxony State Office for the Preservation of Monuments.
Gerhard Richter was born in Dresden in 1932; he fled from the GDR to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1961. Today, the painter, sculptor and photographer is one of the best-known and most important contemporary artists internationally. The Gerhard Richter Archive is located at the Dresden State Art Collections.
