The Pandharpur Wari is an 800-year-old pilgrimage tradition in Maharashtra, India, where devotees, known as Warkaris, walk over 250 km from Alandi and Dehu to the Vithoba Temple in Pandharpur. This 21-day journey, culminating on Ashadhi Ekadashi (July 6, 2025), involves carrying the padukas (footprints) of saints like Dnyaneshwar and Tukaram in palanquins (palkhis). The procession is vibrant, with devotees chanting bhajans, playing instruments like veenas and dholkis, and performing folk dances like fugdi. Women often carry tulsi plants, and the atmosphere is filled with saffron flags, colorful turbans, and spiritual fervor. Videos on YouTube, such as those from channels like Zee 24 Taas or user posts, capture the devotion, communal joy, and cultural richness, showing lakhs of pilgrims, including unique groups like cyclists or divyang (differently-abled) Warkaris, marching toward Pandharpur.
