Think of Suzuka '90 and your mind probably goes to the Senna / Prost incident at the first corner. After this... maybe Piquet and Moreno leading home a Benetton 1-2.
(Piquet would go one to make it two from two at Australia).
But what about the great story of "Super" Aguri Suzuki becoming the first Japanese driver to step onto the podium in F1?! What an achievement - and the fantastic aftermath of the race including podium celebrations and interviews has been captured here. Clear jubilation on the face of Suzuki, and who can blame him? Well deserved! 🏆
The driver from Tokyo scored a total of 6 points during the 1990 season.
A single point followed in '91, before a four year wait until he was on the board again in 1995 with Ligier. And if you're wondering, he's had 2 of his countrymen from Japan achieve this feat since 1990... Sato and Kobayashi 🇯🇵
A special mention for Roberto Moreno as he also scores his only ever F1 podium, with a 2nd place.
Absolute tears of joy for him as he sobs, clutching onto his fellow Brazilian and teammate Piquet.
A great super-sub performance for the injured Nannini, and must have helped his cause keeping the seat for the early part of 1991. A young, skillful German driver would soon have other ideas!...
Hope this video brings a smile to your face!
