1. Cherry-picked Data: I noticed that the RAC relies on erratic snapshot dates for their Fuel Watch website, with strange gaps ranging from 6 to 21 days between data points. Because they use this incomplete data set to make their arguments, they consistently miss the real story of what is actually happening across the fuel sector.

2. Ignoring the Bigger Picture: The RAC was incredibly quick to go to the press when wholesale prices dropped faster than retail prices over a highly specific 6-day window. However, they completely neglected to mention that retailers actually absorbed the initial peak of wholesale price hikes. In reality, retailers took a massive 40-50% hit to their margins during that initial phase rather than passing the full cost onto motorists.

3. Misunderstanding Market Competition: The RAC essentially argues that pump prices should move in step with wholesale prices. Yet, my analysis shows that if the UK market had actually adopted this wholesale tracker model, the average petrol or diesel driver would have spent around £12 more across the RAC's data snapshot.
