The search engine was released in 1994 and it was claimed that it was the first search engine for WWW but on the contrary, by that time several search engines had been launched and made public for users.

History of WWWW

The World Wide Web Worm was developed as a research project at the University of Colorado by a student named Oliver McBryan. The search engine or the worm consisted of a database of nearly 3 lakh multimedia objects. These objects could be accessed and searched for through keywords on the WWWW. All these objects were accessible through a network of more than 1 lakh web pages as of 1994.

The current State of WWWW

Being one of the earliest search engines, stayed in trend for some time. It also supported Perl regular expressions, unlike any other modern search engine. Eventually, the WWWW technology was bought by Goto.com and currently, the website is also unavailable for public usage.
