Originally started as Gough, Gough & Hamer in 1932, Cat® dealer Terra now has 15 branches and around 500 people serving customers throughout New Zealand. Tracey Gough went to the US in search of hardware products to supply his hardware store, and came back with the Caterpillar dealership that his family owned for around 90 years. As part of the sale to Sime Darby, the dealership changed their name from Gough’s to Terra Cat. Now boasting a new S·O·S℠ oil lab, Terra has been involved in most construction activity within New Zealand, including early land clearing, roading infrastructure, and energy security as dams have been built throughout the country. Wheels at Wanaka, NZ's Global Operator Challenge event, remains a memorable career moment for Managing Director Chris Heaton, who reflects on this celebration of people from the past, present and future that are involved in New Zealand's construction industry.
