Originally, it is best drunk as a digestive since there is little sugar added and most of the sugars are from the macerated fruits.
However, it can be more sweetened with cane sugar or syrup to be drunk as an aperitif.
The taste and flavor of the arranged rum result from a long maceration of the ingredients, at least one to six months.
There are classic recipes, but many variations are possible depending on desires, traditions.
Ingredients:
2 liters rum (from 50 to 60 %), 6 mangosteens, 4 long kampot peppercorns, 1 cinnamon tree leaf, 2 pieces of mace, 1 quality vanila bean, 1 ½ dried hibiscus flowers.
Cane sugar syrup to sweeten after 3 month's of maceration.
