Opened in 1962, the existing Emergency Department (ED) was only built to serve 35,000 patients a year. More than 60 years later, the ED now serves more than 80,000 patients annually, or more than two times its original intended capacity. As the primary emergency care destination for more than 20 cities and unincorporated communities, the ED is one of the busiest in Los Angeles County, regularly facing patient overcrowding and size limitations.
Emanate Health is replacing its existing facility with a new 60,000-square-foot building, with a 60-bed ED on the first floor and a 24-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on the second floor. By more than doubling the number of emergency beds, the new ED-ICU will better address the most critical health care needs of our growing community and offer an enhanced level of treatment when our patients need it most.
