SYNOPSIS

In CHERUBS & MAENADS, Melissa Collazo brings to life a modern-day femme fatale, a gilded yet conflicted woman navigating the tightrope of romantic ambiguity and self-awareness. As she strolls home, discarding letters with quiet indifference, she clings to a mysterious wrapped package. Upon arriving, she discovers flowers on her doorstep—a fleeting symbol of admiration or apology. She places them in a vase, only to shatter them moments later with a silver baseball bat, underscoring her internal struggle between vulnerability and defiance.

Through her narration of the poem, the video delves into themes of authenticity, the tension between wanting to be noticed yet avoiding judgment, and the strength of preserving grace amidst chaos. Her poised yet rebellious actions echo the poem’s exploration of human connection, ambition, and the delicate art of navigating respect and intimacy. Collazo’s performance captures a woman who refuses to be defined by societal expectations, embracing her complexity with unapologetic elegance.
