Black 5 45212 erupts out of Wimbledon! | The Cathedrals Express - 02.06.18

Описание: The 2nd June would see Black 5 45212 (replacing 61306 Mayflower who is still in a much overdue overhaul) host the Cathedrals Express from Victoria heading to Portsmouth Harbour to take passengers on a trip to the Isle Of Wight, then taken a separate tour from the Harbour to Salisbury and back, before then returning its Isle of Wight passengers back at London Waterloo.

The tour was originally to begin at Waterloo but for unknown reasons did not, so to compensate for this, the train made an extra stop at Wimbledon Platform 9. As far as I know this is the first steam engine to stop at Wimbledon in many decades, and the first ever to stop in Platform 9, though I could be wrong. One thing that shocked me was how far back the train stopped.

After collecting passengers the Black 5 makes a sounding departure from Wimbledon, with the Class 47 at the rear. Shortly after, the train stops. My only assumption is the diesel's brakes went on after passing the red signal, but again the reason was unknown. The train eventually moves again before having to stop once again to await the road onto the mainline towards Woking. Despite being far away the Black 5 could still be heard powering away.

The return was filmed at Raynes Park, but when I got there the train was running 10 minutes late. From watching live data the train was sat at Worplesdon. 10 minutes later it then departed and then sat at Woking for a further 20 minutes, meaning the train was now over 40 minutes late. The train is seen in two shots passing Raynes Park, with 45212 seeming to be doing nothing and the 47 doing all the work, maybe the locomotive had problems on the way home?

Certainly enjoyed seeing the locomotive, and witnessing its powerful departure out of Wimbledon!
