NEW LIVES IN TALLINN, ESTONIA? British couple travel plans scrapped, Covid-19 lockdown with no home!

In this video (which is slightly different to our usual travel vlogs) we arrive over the border from Latvia into Estonia just as the border closed that evening. Luckily, that was the day we had already planned to drive to Estonia so we made it and were able to return our car the next day as planned.

After finding out we were the only guests staying at our accommodation because of all the border closures and travel cancellations we decided it’s best to speak to the embassy who said we could continue onto our next place if we wanted to or stay put the choice was ours so we took a walk around Tallinn and show the sights of the Old Town before deciding it’s probably best to stop travelling and stay put for a while.

We cancelled all our ongoing travels: ferries, trains, flights, accommodation etc and the owner of our accommodation said we could stay as long as needed and we agreed a weekly rate with them.

We were so relieved to finally have some certainty about what we were doing and went to get some food and familiarise ourselves with our new home during this unprecedented time. Just a few days later we woke up to a message from the owner of our accommodation explaining that unfortunately the landlord for the building was forcing all the businesses within it to close down by the end of the week. This included our hostel, we had 2 days to re think everything and plan our next move.

We decided to move to an airbnb as we felt at least that way we have our own space or apartment and avoid running into the same issues again. We found a studio apartment over the other side of the city and booked it for the next 2 weeks. Exactly 7 days after arriving in Tallinn we packed up and moved to our second accommodation.

After a week living in our studio apartment we decided we needed more facilities and space as the tiny apartment we were in didn’t even have an oven, only a hob. So we moved to another airbnb which was our 3rd move having been in Tallinn for 2 weeks.

We were so pleased to have made that decision our new apartment has all the facilities we need and even has a little balcony so we can get fresh air while self isolating! We booked to stay for around a month and plan to extend if required.

We have plenty of time to explore this great little city now so our next vlogs will be back to our usual format! :)
