Canada’s economy is showing major signs of a slowdown, potentially following the United States into a recession. With employment slowing, GDP flattening and the yield curve inverting, the higher cost of borrowing is weighing heavily on the Canadian economy, with worries growing it will follow the U.S. into an economic downturn.

Canada’s economy failed to expand in May and June, as employment numbers dropped for the second consecutive month. Last week we saw the yield curve invert, indicated investors are growing increasingly wary about the potential for a recession in Canada.

Definitional issues aside, the United States is in what looks like a recession. With Canada historically trailing closely behind the U.S., recessionary fears are obviously growing.
