Voltage Lab 2 - First patch (with notes)

Описание: The Voltage Lab 2 from Pittsburgh Modular has been on my shopping list since Superbooth 2024. It was my fave synth from the show. Its clearly completely different from other fixed architecture desktop synths but its not a semi modular either. Its truly a complex modular setup & sophisticated controller in a case.

There are quite a few videos around showing its sonic prowess and its effortless excellence at more ambient style music.
This video is a record of my first attempt at a patch after owning the VL2 for a couple of days. It would be wrong to say the VL2 is 'easy' to master. Its far from that. But, with a couple of days checking out online tutorials and a swift breeze through the manual, I figured I'd try out something to test the oscillators, the sequencer channels and the CV channel. This little tune is what came out.

Setup: The controller/sequencers are clocked via midi from Ableton. I routed Osc 1 and Osc 2 separately into Ableton so that I could add different delay and reverb FX to each voice. The FX are from Ableton VST plugins. I also added some compression and post mix processing to help balance the sound for final output.

The performance is live from my first take and the VL2 sound has not been edited. I simply played what I felt like playing on the VL2 with the Ableton drum and bass loops running in the background. I shortened the video because the VL2 is so much fun that I just kept on playing for way longer than I should have.

This is a truly fun synth and should provide lots of variation for upcoming Aefonic performances. Next step is to pair it with my modular rig and the Intellijel Cascadia
