STORYLINE:
Iraq has beefed up patrols along its border with Syria. On Thursday, with armoured vehicles lined up along the frontier in the northern province of Sinjar.

Hundreds of Iraqi military vehicles and personnel were deployed on the borderline, after the recent tensions and instability on the Syrian side.

“The Iraqi Syrian borders haven’t seen such measures since its establishment, and they are supported with an electronic observation system.” Said Brigadier-General Ali Rashid, commander of sixth district of Iraqi Syrian borders.

With the push by government forces into northeast Syria along the border with Iraq, Baghdad became concerned that some of the detainees might become a danger to Iraq’s security, if they managed to flee from the detention centres amid the chaos.

“We have orders by our commanders and leaders to deal with any target in the highest level of accuracy and reliability and implement human rights,” said Haydar Salam, a soldier with the Iraqi Border Guard.
