In this episode of Fueled and Whole, Krista Steinbeiser sits down with Angela Lovell, MAPC, RDN, LD to explore the deeper roots of eating disorders, chronic stress, and the path toward sustainable recovery.
Together they discuss:
• The impact of cortisol and chronic stress on the body
• How adrenal dysregulation affects decision-making and mental clarity
• The role of trauma in disordered eating patterns
• Why self-compassion is essential in recovery
• How family members can support a loved one navigating eating disorder recovery
Eating disorders are among the deadliest mental health conditions. According to the National Eating Disorders Association:
• Every 52 minutes, one person dies as a direct result of an eating disorder
• Global prevalence has more than doubled in recent decades
• Eating disorders have the second highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness
• Fewer than 6% of those struggling are medically underweight
• Less than half fully recover
Many individuals struggle silently, often without diagnosis or understanding. This conversation brings clarity, clinical insight, and hope — addressing both the physiological and spiritual dimensions of healing.
True recovery requires more than willpower. It requires restoration of body, mind, and spirit.
Isaiah 61:3–4 reminds us that the Lord brings beauty from ashes and restores what has been broken.
Until next time, be fueled with truth and whole in Christ.
