During the Belle Époque in Paris, art flourished in cafés, studios, and academies, but the world of sculpture remained a difficult territory for women. Working with marble, plaster, or bronze required access to training, space, and resources that were almost always reserved for men.
Even so, a small group of women sculptors managed to carve out their place. They studied in private academies, shared studios in neighborhoods like Montparnasse, and exhibited in salons where their presence was still considered unusual. Their works spoke of intimacy, emotion, and movement, with a sensitivity that was different, yet equally powerful.
Many remained in the shadow of their male colleagues, and their names faded over time. Yet they were quiet pioneers: they shaped not only figures, but also the place of women within modern art.
