On today's episode of Video Game Scams, we're going to take a look at an old Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum game known as SQIJ. Regarded as the worst game ever made by many, but also as one of the stupidest scams in gaming by, well me.
SQIJ was originally created by a new developer, 13 year old Jason Kendall, for the Commodore 64. After selling his game to video game publishing company The Power House, the game was looking to be released on other platforms, most notably the ZX Spectrum.
Since Kendall himself didn't want to be the one to code the port, Jason Creighton, a 15 year old coder and game developer, was contacted to do it instead. Although Creighton was initially enthusiastic to create SQIJ for the ZX Spectrum, that enthusiasm quickly turned to angry as tensions grew between him and The Power House.
As time progressed, the game turned from a simple little game made by a kid, to a full blown accidental gaming scam. Creighton had planned to only sabotage his partnership with The Power House, but instead his plan backfired.
