Overview
A workshop discussion on soil health indicators. Farmers and Advisors were invited to share their views on how understandable, useful and relevant they are.
How do we decide which indicators best reflect soil health?
This workshop led by Dr. Julia Cooper and Dr. Catriona Willoughby at The Organic Research Centre (ORC) shared the progress of the Early Indicators of Soil Health Project which aims to improve land manager confidence in the measuring and monitoring of soil health by improving our understanding of which soil metrics are most suitable as early indicators of soil health changes.
We invited farmers and farm advisors with a UK perspective to participate and engage with the shortlisted indicators from the project, offering feedback on their usefulness, clarity and relevance.
The session combined short presentations with facilitated discussion and feedback activities which will help the project submit a final report to AHDB which summarises our selection process, the creation of the interpretation framework and any avenues for future research.
