This video discusses a student’s problem with some holes he needs to place that would impact an angular face. Consider using some mid planes (midplanes) such as the Front Plane and the Right Plane in the model – so that the holes pass through both symmetric and angular faces of the model. Also consider checking your mass properties along the way – see the drawing, use the space bar as a short cut to get the view orientation desired, use existing model geometry for the sketches for the holes, insert a vertical and horizontal center line, 8mm from the base of the model for the horizontal centerline, vertical centerline from the origin up, circle for hole, dimension diameter of first circular sketch, equal sketch relation, symmetry, single and double dimension - radius and diameter, choose circle for hole - vertical center line – then defined second hole – bing – it drops in place, or mirror sketch entities, yellow preview, “ctrl 8” is “normal to.
The next model is the Planter Pot with the On Edge dimension – but you need to turn your lights on – you can’t see the model! How do you do this? Here is how to do it: Display Manager, View Scene Lights Camera, choose lights, turn all 3 of them on “in SolidWorks” from shaded to bold, remove appearances, back to PE High Density. For the middle cut choose Front Plane, Sketch tool, borrow existing model geometry – convert entities, CRTL 8 for normal to, select the trapezoid - the edges of the interior trapezoid get converted into lies forming enclosed geometry, delete the top on edge sketch relation and add a dimension from the bottom, extruded cut - “through All Both”, not angular surface, rename your features, shell.
