Описание: The Supreme Court has refused to entertain petitions seeking the registration of an FIR and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over alleged hate speech. The petitions were filed following a controversial video shared by the Assam BJP's official handle on February 7. A bench led by the Chief Justice of India directed the petitioners to approach the Gauhati High Court instead, stating that the issues raised can be examined under the High Court's jurisdiction. The apex court requested the Chief Justice of the High Court to provide an expedited hearing for the matter. During the proceedings, the bench emphasised that petitioners must respect the constitutional framework and the established legal system. The petitioners had alleged that the Chief Minister is a 'habitual offender' whose statements go against constitutional ethos. However, the Supreme Court relegated the matter to the state's High Court, noting that such grievances should be addressed at that level first.
