Roadworkers have just finished resurfacing State Highway 1 over the Brynderwyn Hills in Northland, and the road is now fully open and ready for summer travel.
SH1 over the Brynderwyns is part of the main route between Northland and Auckland. It’s a vital road for Northland’s tourism operators, and for freight and business travelling between the two regions.
In 2024 we closed the road for a few months to make important repairs after it was affected by severe weather in 2023. The resurfacing works we completed last weekend marks the end of our recovery works on the road. This work ensures the road remains a safe and reliable connection for Northland for the short to medium term.
