Aleson passenger ships face audit after ferry sinking | DZMM TeleRadyo

Aleson Shipping Lines are facing possible revocation of their certificate of conveyance following the sinking of the M/V Trisha Kerstin 3 off Basilan last Monday, claiming 18 lives, the Maritime Industry Authority said.

Marina spokesman Dr. Luisito delos Santos said Coast Guard and Marina inspectors have 10 days to complete the ship inspection and audit of all Aleson passenger vessels to check for compliance on safety features and lifesaving appliances.
“Kung magiging serious ang finding at audit sa inspection ng Marina at PCG, may posibilidad na ma-suspend o i-revoke ang kanilang certificate of conveyance,” he said in a DZMM interview.
He added the grounding will be lifted on a per vessel basis if a ship is deemed compliant with safety standards.

Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez earlier grounded the entire passenger fleet of Aleson Shipping Lines after the M/V Trisha Kerstin 3 sank just five kilometers east of Baluk-Baluk Island in Basilan early Monday.

The Marina will issue special permits to shipping operators who will take over Aleson’s routes temporarily during the suspension.
Survivors of the ferry sinking are entitled to P50,000 insurance while those who lost loved ones will receive P200,000.

“Dapat may emergency fund na ibibigay sa ating mga pasahero amounting to P20,000,” the Marina spokesman said.
